Kinja'd!!!

Such a clean layout. No “smartwatch” I have seen yet has been able to pull this off. The moto 360 does look okay in chrono form

What do you consider affordable? lol

I saved for years to get an Omega Seamaster. Beautiful. I get it serviced every 2-3 years.

My daily wear watch is a Tool Watch by Berkbender and Brown in Bronze.

I need this in my life

$1,400 for a legendary Omega is pretty affordable, seeing as there are watches that go for $25,500.

Unless affordable = < $200, then no.

That is a very pretty watch though.

$1,400 isn’t affordable at all, regardless of what the rest of the line costs.

The base 911 is still $100k, which isn’t affordable, even though the GT3 is $250k+.

I don’t know watches, but that is seriously beautiful. And I want it in my life. But not for anything over like $350.

Why is it a “driving watch?” Speed holes in the band?

$1,400 is affordable for a classic collectable watch, you need to analyze other aspects other than the cost itself.

Never seen the Moto 360, but I agree, the layout is incredibly well done.

Well.... $1,400 for a classic collectable watch isn’t all that much, finding cheaper ones is almost impossible.

So that people don’t think they can get away with owning a single watch.

It’s all relative. But to me personally $1400 is definitely not affordable. But hey, student income.

Kinja'd!!!

This is my affordable watch. Same style band. :)

It was designed to be worn on the underside of the wrist and the layout is clean, so you can keep time while driving spiritedly.

Yeah, like my budget for things like watches. Which is all that matters.

Now, if you mean to talk about the watch as a collectible and not as a WATCH, then I might be able to go along. Like a McLaren F1 that costs $500k instead of north of a million. That’s still not affordable, but it’s a bargain for collectors items.

But to me, it’s a watch. No amount of intricate movement or whatever is going to change the fact that it tells time and looks amazing. And that premium for whatever gets attached to the Omega name isn’t nearly enough to justify $1200 over what I value it at personally.

That’s as maybe, but I cannot afford that much for a watch, probably ever, regardless of collectability.

I can’t wait till smart watches start to look cleaner and less nerdy. The Moto 360 looks nice, but the functionality isn’t really there.

Or you could buy a Timex Ironman for $30 that lasts forever. And can be used for rallies. And everything else.

And thinking that $1,400 for a watch is cheap is what makes people do this:

Excessively expensive things aren’t always necessary. Sure, I probably need a dressier watch for future things, since I think I lost my sub-$200 Eco Drive, but $1,400 is too much. There must be a better looking option for significantly less than that.

Kinja'd!!! MrDakka > My citroen won't start

Not anymore; I had to sell one to go to college. I guess I can sell the other one for a car and this cool watch though because being cool is all that matters in life, right?

But there isn’t, a new Omega is around $25,500 and that is the average one.

What about from manufacturers other than Omega? Big name brand= ridiculous prices.

Sure, but what you are paying for are mechanical marvels, automatic movements created in-house and incredible detail. There are things I consider tasteless and overpriced, like some of the Hublots and new APs, but that’s just like those pink and blue Rolls Royces. $1,400 is not affordable to someone not looking into classic watches, in the same way a $1,400 tool-box isn’t affordable to someone like me, who has no DIY inclination whatsoever.
